INTERVIEWER ASKED

Tell me about a time you had to bring down latency on something already in production.

Say this

At Kora I owned the checkout API, and p95 sat at 1.4s. I traced it to N+1 reads on the cart, batched them, and added a short cache on the pricing call. We landed at 320ms without a rewrite.

HOW IT WORKS

Three steps, then you forget it's there

Setup happens once, before the call. After that it only speaks up when there's a question on the table.

  1. 01

    Add your CV and the job

    Create an account, upload the CV you want answers grounded in, and save the role you're interviewing for. That's the context Pair answers from.

  2. 02

    Install and sign in

    Download the desktop app and sign in from inside it. It sits over your call as a thin frosted panel that stays out of the way until it has something to say.

  3. 03

    Hit Start Interview

    Pair hears each question, drafts a spoken answer plus the key points to hit, and saves the full transcript to your dashboard when you're done.

FEATURES

Built for the ten seconds after a hard question

Not a script to read. Enough structure to keep you specific when your mind goes blank.

You are sharing your screen
Interviewer
You
Notes

Not in the shared frame

Invisible to screen share

Content-protected at the OS level, so it is excluded from screen captures and recordings, including Pair's own screen reading. Share your whole desktop and the panel simply is not in the frame.

1. Two Sum

nums = [2, 7, 11, 15], target = 9
→ [0, 1]
SOLUTIONCtrl ⇧ G
def two_sum(nums, t):
    seen = {}
    for i, n in enumerate(nums):
        if t - n in seen:
            return [seen[t - n], i]
        seen[n] = i
O(n) timeO(n) space

Solve what is on your screen

Coding question in a shared editor? One shortcut reads the screen and answers it, so nothing is sent until you ask.

“Tell me about a time you had to ship under real pressure.”

Say this

Hears the interviewer, not you

Pair captures your computer's audio output, so it transcribes the person asking and ignores your own voice entirely.

Say this
Type this
while l < r:
  if s == t:
    return …

A card to say, a card to type

Spoken answers and code live in separate panels, so a follow-up question never wipes the solution you are typing from.

Every interview, written down

Each session is saved with the full transcript: every question and the answer you were given, ready to review or download before round two.

CODING ROUNDS

When the question is typed, not spoken

Half of technical interviews never say the question out loud. It lands in a shared editor or a chat window. Pair watches the screen for exactly that moment, reads the problem, and works it.

  • Notices when a new problem appears on screen and settles
  • Reads the prompt, including the constraints and examples
  • Drafts an approach, the complexity, and code that runs

It only sends a frame when the screen actually changes and then holds still, so a busy call doesn't turn into a stream of guesses.

ON YOUR SCREENread 1.2s ago

Given an array of meeting intervals, return the minimum number of rooms required.

APPROACH

Sweep line over sorted start/end times. A min-heap of end times works too. O(n log n) time, O(n) space.

def min_rooms(intervals):
    starts = sorted(i[0] for i in intervals)
    ends = sorted(i[1] for i in intervals)
    rooms = best = j = 0
    for s in starts:
        while j < len(ends) and ends[j] <= s:
            rooms -= 1
            j += 1
        rooms += 1
        best = max(best, rooms)
    return best

TESTIMONIALS

What candidates say after the call

Names are withheld. We don't publicize users' interview help.

“The panel gave me the one line I needed while I was still saying “that’s a good question”. I stopped blanking on my own projects.”
Frontend engineer
“A coding round appeared in a shared editor and Pair had the approach and working code before I finished reading the prompt.”
Backend engineer
“I review the transcript after every round. Seeing what actually got asked changed how I prepared for the next one.”
Bootcamp graduate
“Being able to keep the code on screen while the interviewer moved on to the next question is the part I did not know I needed.”
Full-stack engineer
“It answers out of my own CV, so the examples are mine. It sounds like me on a good day rather than a script.”

FAQ

The questions everyone asks first

Can the interviewer see the overlay?

No. The window is marked content-protected, which tells Windows and macOS to exclude it from screen captures and recordings. If you share your screen, the panel is not in the frame, and Pair's own screen reader skips it too.

Does it record my microphone?

No. Pair listens to your computer's audio output: the interviewer's voice as it comes through your speakers. Meeting apps never play your own voice back to you, so your side of the conversation isn't captured.

How fast does an answer appear?

Pair waits for the interviewer to finish a sentence, then sends that clip for transcription and drafting. In practice the answer card lands a couple of seconds after the question ends, while you're still saying "that's a good question".

What does it know about me?

Whatever you point it at: the CV you uploaded and the job description you saved for that role. You can switch jobs at any time, or leave both out if you'd rather have generic answers.

Does it work on Mac?

The overlay, screen reading, and answer drafting all work. System-audio capture on macOS is still limited by the OS, so audio questions may need a virtual audio device. Windows is the smoother experience today.

Do I need the desktop app?

Yes. Pair has to sit above your meeting window and read your screen, which a browser tab can't do. The dashboard handles your résumés and transcripts; the app handles the live call.
